First thing you need to know about Cian Nathair is that he hates it when people mispronounce his name. It's said KEY-AN. Anyway, onto the good stuff.
Cian was born in a small village in Ireland around 1833. For reasons unknown, the place was a hub for demon activity at the time. This is the most likely explanation for how a couple who made their meager living as farmers might come to bear a child who possessed a lengthy serpentine tail covered in black scales, with similar black scales running down his spine.
Unsurprisingly, his 'parents' were horrified, and, unable to outright kill him themselves, simply abandoned him on the outskirts of the village. Luckily, this same demonic activity that would be responsible for his birth would also be responsible for drawing to the village the Shadowhunters that would save his life. On a routine patrol, a trio of Nephilim found him and brought him to the nearest Institute in Dublin. There was some debate about what to do with him, until they found a fellow warlock willing to take him in, Terra Zane.
While perhaps not the best parent, she turned out to be the best teacher he could have hoped for. She taught him much of what he knows today, including his healthy respect for magic. He stayed with Terra until he turned twenty, at which point they both decided he needed to get out on his own. He lived in various places all over Ireland, England, and Scotland, before finally hopping a boat to New York in 1920. He's been there ever since.
As a person, Cian immediately comes off as arrogant, and he certainly is, to a degree. He is extremely confident, in both himself and his abilities as a warlock, and he isn't shy about letting people know. He's rather vain as well, concerned with his appearance a bit more than he ought to be. While he may come off as a bit aloof initially, he tends to warm to people with some time, and is actually quite friendly. While not overly reckless, he does have a streak of spontaneity. When it comes to major decisions, however, he very much prefers to thoroughly go over the matter, or have a well thought out plan.
When it comes to other Downworlders, he has no problems. Though, he does carry a certain amount of distrust for vampires, due to his past experiences with them. While not overly fond of the Shadowhunters he's met, he does feel some measure of gratitude towards them after that group 'rescued' him so many years ago, and is known to offer his services at a discount. (Healing, mostly. Risky business, that demon hunting.)
So, plot on! He is more than ready to stick his nose in other people's business.
