the sidewalks were damp from rain that had subsided not long ago, and puddles were dripping into the drains on the side of the street. lamps gave off a sickly light as a young girl stopped in front of a building labeled 'pandemonium.' the girl stood about five feet in height, if not under, and she was dainty and fragile in build. she almost looked like she could be a mere child, and yet eleanor nightshade was no child. donning a canvas-like red dress, with a thin black sweater on top, she blinked at the club, watching as a few people were checked, and allowed in. the bouncer gazed at her, his eyebrows raised and questioning, as if he were silently asking her, 'are you coming or not?' with a sniff, eleanor stepped forward, showing id and stepping inside. the music was blaring, and people were doing an assortment of things. drinking, dancing, laughing, sitting down, making out, the possibilities were endless. her sharp blue eyes scanning the area, she leaned against the wall closest to the door, arms over her flat chest and her head tilted back so she gazed at the lights above the dance floor. she was bored, and she had thought pandemonium was the place that would life her spirits, but it hadn't done the trick. lowering her head, she watched as a drunk stumbled across the way, making her way to the bathroom. stupid teenagers.

Pandemonium truly lived up to its name, at least on some nights. But tonight was one of them and Phlox hadn't had a better time at the club so far. The bass was pounding... or was that his heartbeat? It was hard to tell with the music so loud and the enjoyment in the room nearly tangible. With all of the positive in the club it was easy to suddenly spot the negative and tonight it was in the form of a young and very pretty girl. "Hello, what's this?" He spoke calmly to himself, not at all minding that it was aloud.
Leaning forward, to get a better look, Phlox ignored the girls around him that were chattering about uninteresting things because he had found his own, very interesting something. It was someone he'd never seen before and yet he instantly felt as if he knew them. Was it Nephilim? Certainly there were other there that night and being new in not only the city but the country, he was not surprised that he didn't know them all. Biting onto his lip out of habit as he concentrated, when one of his companions tried to get his attention he easily shrugged them off and got to his feet, slipping easily away and into the crowds.
In a matter of moments he was only a few steps from Eleanor, a confident smile on his face. It seemed he stood at least a foot higher than her. "Have you lost your way?" he asked curiously, the confidence in his expression was in his voice as well but he knew when to turn it down. "No, you don't look the type to be lost. What's troubling you? Forgive me for being so forward but this is a club after all, no one so pretty as you should be wearing such an expression."

the music was blaring in such a way that eleanor was sure her ears would be ringing for the rest of the night. she had spent enough ungodly hours here to know that the ringing would stop by mid-morning, and that the temporary effect was merely a bi-nine bother. parting her lips as she mouthed words to a song she recognized, her bright blue eyes caught sight of a figure working its way toward her. nephilim. but she didn't recognize him. narrowing her eyes, she pushed off the wall and stood with her feet together and her arms even tighter still over her chest. she watched silently as he approached, and smirked when he spoke. making a show of looking around slowly, she paused with her eyes mockingly wide. "no, i am quite sure i know where i am, and my way is well set in my mind." still, the smirk and sarcastic words melted as her smile became a bit more friendly and welcoming. even as she replied to the newcomers words, she knew very well that they were mistaken, or could be. eleanor may easily know where she was and where she was going, but she may have lost her way, her true self, somewhere in her footsteps. she leaned against the wall once more, shrugging. "i am not quite lost, i am simply working." she said cryptically, wondering if he would be first to say what he was, or she would. either way she knew that this stranger had an idea- otherwise he would not have bothered her at all. "the name's eleanor. eleanor nightshade." she spoke plaintively, knowing that the name would stir up an idea of her status for this guy. the nightshade name, locally, was one to be pondered. unfortunately for her.

Phlox inhaled slowly, almost as if to catch himself. It'd been a long time since he talked to anyone even remotely fascinating and her looks alone certainly had him interested. Yes, she was Nephilim, there was no doubt about it. Had he been a Mundane he might have missed the sarcasm in her tone... in her movements but he knew he was being played with right back and it pleased him. "Ah, such a shame. I was hoping I could escort you around and have you hang off my arm, we'd certainly get a fair amount of attention and that could shake up your night." Phlox laughed then, soft but deep. "Mm... not quite lost, you say? Maybe you can be 'not quite lost' with me tonight." He realized the way he spoke just then may have had implications he didn't mean for but he acted as if it was nothing unusual and let her continue; introductions.
"Nightshade?" That name was familiar, he knew it from somewhere and not just because it would have been an odd surname for a Mundane. Of course, he had only been in New York for a few weeks and the renown of her family was mostly lost on him, having been foreign for so very many years. He shrugged it off as that he might have heard it around the Institute. "So what is a delicate Nephilim flower such as yourself doing here, alone..." he trailed off, glancing around to make sure she indeed did not have others with her, it seemed she didn't. "Forgive me, I am being terribly rude tonight, must be the music. I'm Phlox. Phlox Reaver. I'm new to the States," he offered a bit of information so as not to run the conversation into a wall. "Would you like to sit down, or is leaning against the wall your thing?" All grins.

eleanor smiled crookedly, her head tilted slightly to the right. "oh, sorry to disappoint you. i'm not really the type of girl to hang off of arms." she replied smoothly, her blue eyes glittering with amusement. shifting her weight from her right to her left hip, she took in the stranger. he was certainly not from here, one could tell from his accent and his looks. so he was new, this she guessed before he even said it. as he closed his little monologue, eleanor was interested to find his name was unique- phlox. "well that sounds fine to me." she said, her eyes scanning to find that no trouble was really going to happen- and nephilim sticking together was never a bad idea. especially in a place where downworlders often caused trouble. she laughed lightly, her voice like windchimes. "yes, i am alone. and as i said, i am working." she repeated with a flick of her wrist. eleanor was always the type to play everything off coolly, and she did a fine job at it. it was only when one got to really know the girl that they found the confident exterior was merely a shell hiding a complex mess of a shadowhunter. she was angry, distrustful, temperamental, and she had a wicked sense of recklessness. "well nice to meet you, phlox." she drawled, uncurling her arms from her chest and letting them dangle at her sides. "actually i find leaning against the wall to give off the proper badass air, don't you think?" she grinned, quirking one brow and shrugging somewhat playfully.

Feigning extreme disappointment when she broke it to him that she didn't hang off of gent's arms like a damsel in distress, Phlox took in a deep sigh and tried to look as heartbroken as possible but he was soon back to a smirk. It was hard to fake his own distress when he was talking to someone as quick as she seemed to be. "Yes you mentioned that, so is there some nasty Demon about to appear here tonight or maybe by working you mean finding the new guy and hanging out with him." Phlox found himself relaxing with her now, it was nice to talk to a fellow Nephilim, as he hadn't really since he got there.
"It's nice to meet you too, Lady Eleanor~" he teased playfully, as she definitely did have the air of a noble, besides it was just fun. "I guess I would have to agree with you. But I find that being badass can also give one a leg cramp and that usually isn't good when there is evil afoot." Nodding matter-of-factly, as if this were the type of conversation just anyone would have, Phlox shifted so he could glance around at the open club a bit more. He found prying his eyes away from Eleanor wasn't so easy. "I assume you live at the Institute? I haven't met anyone yet so I wouldn't know. I don't normally make such horrible small talk but I'm not quite sure what American Nephilim chat about at night clubs." He peeked back over to her now, a more genuine smile graced his face instead of the cocky smirks.
